Signing an ACSA with USA pose danger to Sri Lanka?

People of Sri Lanka do know very little about the contents of the proposed new ACSA agreement and it is a cause for worry.

Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe has stated in parliament that the government would renew the Acquisition and Cross Service Agreement (ACSA) with the United States which had lapsed in March this year (2017).  Apart from asserting that such bilateral agreements are ‘important’ for Sri Lanka in the current international context, he gave no details regarding substance or amendments in the new agreement, which is yet to be made public.

People of Sri Lanka do know very little about the contents of the proposed new ACSA agreement and it is a cause for worry.  Aren’t the public entitled to be informed and to be allowed wider discussion before a decision is taken to sign an agreement that could compromise the country’s sovereignty and independence?
